Everything we take on

Every job below is one we do ourselves across Placerville.

Deck Installation

We dig and pour footings below frost depth, then frame with joist hangers and structural screws rated for the span. The ledger board gets flashed before a single joist goes up, because that's the spot where most deck failures start. A simple platform off the kitchen and a multi-level deck stepping down a slope get the same attention to that detail.

Deck Repair

A soft spot in the decking usually means the joist underneath has rotted, not just the board on top. We pull the bad boards, sister or replace the joist, and check the ledger flashing while we're in there. Railings that wobble get re-anchored to solid framing instead of just tightened.

Deck Staining & Sealing

Sierra foothill sun grays untreated wood fast and dries it out from the top down. We pressure wash, let the boards dry for a couple of days, then apply an oil-based stain or a solid color sealer depending on the wood and how much wear it takes. Composite decking gets a different treatment, mostly cleaning, since staining it isn't an option.

Custom Deck Design

Some lots drop off sharp behind the house, and a flat deck plan just won't sit right on that grade. We lay out multi-level decks with the stairs and landings where the slope actually wants them, not where a stock drawing puts them. You get a plan drawn to your yard before any lumber is ordered.

Composite Decking Installation

Composite boards don't rot, but the framing underneath still has to be done right. Hidden fastener systems in particular require consistent joist spacing, or the boards telegraph every gap in the frame below. Installations with Trex or TimberTech follow the manufacturer's span tables, not the same spacing used for solid wood decking.

Deck Railing Installation

Guardrail height and baluster spacing are code items, not style choices, an inspector will measure both. Wood, metal, and cable railing systems all get installed to that standard, and cable rail in particular requires posts rated for the tension or it sags within a year.

Deck Resurfacing

If the frame underneath is still sound, we can pull the old decking and lay new boards without rebuilding the structure. This is usually cheaper than a full rebuild and a good option when the joists have years left in them but the boards have cupped or split.

Multi-Level Deck Construction

Stacking two or three deck levels means the stair stringers and landings have to be engineered together, not built one level at a time and hoped into place. We frame the whole structure as one system so the rise and run stay consistent from the top deck to the bottom.

Deck Framing & Structural Repair

A sagging deck usually traces back to an undersized beam, a rotted post base, or a footing that's heaved. We open up the framing, find the actual failure, and replace what's compromised, sistering joists where the rest of the board is still sound.

Fence Installation

We build wood and metal fencing to match or complement the decking we install, using the same attention to post depth and hardware.

How It Works

Four steps, and no surprises in any of them.

01

We come and look

You tell us what you want doing, we look at what is actually there, and we ask the awkward questions early.

02

You get a price

In writing, itemised, free. If something might add cost later we flag it now rather than at the end.

03

We do the work

Same crew throughout. We cover your floors, keep the dust down and tidy up before we leave each day.

04

We walk it with you

You point out anything you are not happy with and we fix it before the invoice, not after.

Common Questions

Things worth asking

Questions that come up once a deck project is underway.

Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Most decks attached to a house and more than 30 inches off the ground require a building permit in El Dorado County. Pulling the permit and scheduling inspections is typically handled as part of the deck project.
How long does a typical deck project take?
A straightforward platform deck usually takes one to two weeks from footings to final boards, weather allowing. A multi-level deck with stairs and custom railing can run three to four weeks because the framing goes up in stages.
Can you work within a set budget?
A stated budget can shape the size, material, and railing style of a deck project. Pressure-treated lumber costs less than composite or cedar, and that's usually the first place to adjust when a quote has to come down.
Do you guarantee your deck work?
Deck framing and installation work is typically covered by a workmanship guarantee, separate from the manufacturer warranty that comes with composite decking. Specific terms should be spelled out in writing as part of the quote.
Who will I be dealing with during the project?
A single point of contact usually handles scheduling and questions from the first site visit through the final walkthrough. That's more straightforward than getting passed between an office and a crew with no direct line.
What decking materials do you install?
Pressure-treated lumber, cedar, redwood, and composite brands like Trex and TimberTech are all common decking choices. Each has a different maintenance schedule, pressure-treated wood requires restaining every couple of years, composite decking mostly requires washing.
Can I still use my yard while the deck is being built?
Most of the yard stays usable during deck construction, though the immediate build area has to stay clear for safety and material staging. The footprint typically gets sectioned off to keep equipment out of the rest of the yard.
What should I do to prepare the site before you start?
Furniture, planters, and anything else on the existing deck or build area should be cleared before the crew arrives. Underground sprinkler lines running through the footprint should be marked or flagged ahead of a utility locate.
What if you find rot or a bad footing once the old deck is torn out?
Work typically pauses so the homeowner can see what was found before anything further gets done, followed by a revised quote for the additional repair. Hidden rot at the ledger board or a cracked footing is common on older decks and often the reason the project got started in the first place.
How do I maintain a new deck once it's finished?
Wood decking generally requires cleaning and a fresh coat of stain or sealer every one to three years depending on sun exposure. Composite decking mainly requires regular washing to keep pollen and dirt from building up in the grain pattern.
